A new AC system shouldn’t wait because of budget timingand with $0 down, it doesn’t have to.

Every day a failing AC system runs in California’s heat, it’s getting closer to complete failure — and complete failure in peak heat always costs more than a planned replacement. Financing removes the financial reason to wait.

Which AC system is right for your California home or business?

Central split system

The standard AC and air handler combination — condenser outside, air handler inside, connected by refrigerant lines and ductwork. Properly sized and installed in a home with good duct integrity, the most cost-effective solution for most California homes.

Heat pump system

Provides both heating and cooling using the same equipment. In California’s moderate winters, significantly more energy-efficient for heating than a gas furnace. Sacramento, Fresno, and Modesto climates are well-suited to heat pump performance.

High-efficiency systems — SEER2 18–26

In Central Valley markets where AC runs 12–16 hours per day for 4–5 months, the payback period on a high-efficiency upgrade is typically 4–7 years — after which the efficiency savings are pure value. We calculate the actual payback period for your usage pattern.

Ductless mini-split systems

Targeted cooling and heating for specific rooms without requiring ductwork — ideal for room additions, converted garages, detached structures, and homes where extending ductwork isn’t practical. Each indoor unit independently controlled.

Commercial packaged units and rooftop systems

Commercial buildings most commonly use packaged rooftop units — all components in a single cabinet on the roof, with only ductwork connections running into the building. All major commercial brands installed and serviced. COIs provided. Zero business disruption standard across all 5 California markets.

Should you repair or replace? Here’s how to think about it honestly.

System is 12+ years old with 2+ repairs in 3 years

The repair cost is approaching the replacement cost — and the next failure is already building

Compressor has failed or is near failure

Compressor replacement on an older system rarely makes financial sense when full replacement costs the same or less

System uses R-22 refrigerant

R-22 is no longer manufactured. Remaining supplies are expensive and diminishing. Maintaining an R-22 system is a losing financial proposition

Energy bills increasing despite similar usage

Aging inefficient systems consume 20–40% more electricity than a modern replacement — the savings often fund the financing payment

inconsistent temperatures room to room

Often a sign the system was never properly sized or the ducts have never been assessed — both addressed in a Grandmark replacement

Repair cost exceeds 50% of replacement cost

The industry standard decision point — especially relevant in California where aging systems are already running harder than they were designed to

We install it right. Or we come back and fix it at no charge.

If we install your new AC system and there is a workmanship issue after completion — we return and fix it at no charge. No argument. No invoice. We stand behind every installation we complete.

Melanie Allison

Fresno, CA

I had my HVAC system replaced by Grandmark about 2 1/2 years ago. It recently started having an issue with the main system not shutting down. The technicians came out promptly, diagnosed the issue, and replaced the faulty part. Bill W was very professional and the problem was solved quickly. Great company!

What to expect during your Grandmark AC replacement

Step 1

Free in-home estimate and load calculation

Your technician visits, assesses the current system, performs the Manual J load calculation, inspects accessible ductwork, and provides a firm written quote. No phone estimates. No guesses. Approximately 60–90 minutes.

Step 2

Equipment selection and written scope

Based on the load calculation, we recommend the correct system size and present options across efficiency tiers with honest payback period calculations. Complete written scope — equipment, installation, permits, and duct work. Fixed price.

Step 3

Permits pulled

Same-day approval in most cases. We handle the paperwork — you just sign and we schedule.

Step 5

Old system removal and new installation — typically 1 day

Old equipment removed and responsibly disposed of. New equipment installed, refrigerant charged to spec, static pressure tested, airflow measured at every register. Most residential replacements completed in a single day.

Step 6

System commissioning and video documentation

Full performance verification — temperature differential, refrigerant pressures, static pressure, airflow readings. All documented on video and sent to you digitally. Proof the installation was done correctly.

Step 7

Walkthrough and warranty documentation

Technician walks you through the new system, thermostat programming, and filter schedule. Manufacturer warranty and Grandmark workmanship guarantee confirmed in writing.

FAQ

AC replacement California — questions answered

Everything California customers ask before approving an AC replacement.

Most residential replacements are completed in a single day — typically 4–8 hours depending on system complexity and whether duct work is included. We provide a specific timeline in your written quote.

The correct size is determined by a Manual J load calculation — not square footage rules of thumb. A 2,000 sq ft home in Fresno with poor insulation may need 4 tons. The same home in Sacramento with good insulation may need 3 tons. We perform a proper load calculation on every estimate. Oversized systems create more problems than they solve.

SEER2 is the efficiency rating for AC equipment — higher numbers mean lower monthly operating costs. California Title 24 requires a minimum of 14.3 SEER2. In the Central Valley where AC runs 12–16 hours per day for 4–5 months, upgrading to 18 SEER2 typically pays back in 4–6 years. We calculate the actual payback for your usage before recommending an upgrade.

If your furnace or air handler is also aging, replacing the full system at the same time is almost always the better financial decision — one installation visit, one set of permits, one duct assessment. Mismatched equipment also underperforms — a new high-efficiency condenser paired with an old air handler rarely achieves its rated efficiency.

Yes — always. An unpermitted AC installation in California voids your manufacturer warranty, creates issues at resale, and may not meet Title 24 energy code. We handle the permit process on every replacement. Non-negotiable.

Yes — and this is one of Grandmark’s most significant advantages. We are the only contractor in Central California that handles both. When the roof is replaced, the attic is accessible and we can seal your entire duct system at a fraction of what it would cost to access through a finished ceiling later.

A full AC replacement typically ranges from $4,500 to $15,000 depending on system size, efficiency rating, brand, and whether duct work needs attention. Most Central Valley homes fall in the $5,500–$9,000 range for a standard split system. Grandmark provides firm written quotes — not phone estimates.
